Animals that are lost, homeless, injured or mistreated are usually taken to the Kingston Humane Society. The Society runs a 24-hour-a-day emergency animal rescue service.
The Society's main role is to care for abandoned animals and place them in new homes. Other services provided by the Society include:
In Ontario, all animals are protected by the Ontario Animal Welfare Act. The legislation requires veterinarians to report any instances of abuse or neglect.
