Before You Arrive

The decision to leave your home country and immigrate to Canada involves many important steps and decisions. Much of the work can be done before you leave. For example, you can apply for a Work Permit (Work Visa) from your country of origin if you have a job offer from a Canadian employer. You must also prove that you meet Canadian immigration requirements and that your employer has permission to hire a foreign worker.

Using online or paper checklists will ensure that you have important personal and educational documents with you when you cross the border into Canada. Checklists can also be used to research your occupation, check your credentials, and learn about Canada's geography, climate and political systems.

This section will help you understand the Canadian immigration process and the types of rules and procedures to expect in your new country.
