Children & Youth

Kingston offers a large selection of programs and activities for children and teenagers. Participating in sports, music, dancing, clubs and other activities helps young people become involved in the community. It also provides an opportunity to make new friends and improve their English-speaking skills.

Many different organizations in the Kingston community provide programming for children and youth. For example, children who learn how to play a musical instrument can participate in a number of organized music ensembles for young people. The Kingston Youth Orchestra is made up of high school-aged musicians while younger children can join the Youth Strings.

The Church Athletic League is a longstanding Kingston organization that sponsors non-competitive hockey and other sports for boys and girls.

The Kingston Field Naturalists runs a special program for junior and teen naturalists designed to stimulate their interest in nature and the environment.

The City of Kingston runs a variety of programs for children, including neighbourhood drop-in programs and summer day camps. In the summer months, the city operates wading pools and splash pads for youngsters in a number of municipal parks. The Kingston Frontenac Public Library also has programs for babies, young children and teens.

Some of the other activities offered in Kingston include:

  • Swimming lessons and competitive swimming
