Local Immigration & Government Offices

Newcomers have access to many important programs and services from federal and provincial government offices. Certain services are available locally while others can only be obtained at government centres outside Kingston. Many government services are also available online.

The following is a list of federal and provincial government office branches in Kingston and the types of services you can expect to receive if you visit them in person.

Federal Government Agencies

Citizenship and Immigration Canada

At this branch office you can

  • Speak directly to an immigration official about the status of your immigration application and immigration programs.
  • Pick up Permanent Resident Cards that have been renewed.
  • File a refugee claim.
  • Pick up copies of immigration forms that can't be downloaded from the Internet.

Note: Canadian passport information is NOT available through this office.

Service Canada Centre

At this branch office you can

  • Apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN).
  • Apply for Employment Insurance (EI).
  • Pick up brochures on applying for a Permanent Resident Card, Canadian citizenship, Canadian passport, and checking foreign credentials.
  • Pick up application forms for the federal Child Tax Credit and other Revenue Canada forms.
  • Apply for Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security.

Note: Staff at the Service Canada Centre will help you download government forms from the Internet and find programs and services, either online or through other Kingston agencies.

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)

At this branch office you can

  • Get information and advice on the importation of household goods and effects from your country of origin.
  • Officially clear your household goods once they have arrived in Kingston.

Provincial Government Agencies

Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration

At this branch office you can

  • Pick up pamphlets about the programs and services of the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration.

Note: This office does not provide direct service to the public. Inquiries about Canadian passports and immigration issues are referred to a federal government call centre.

ServiceOntario Centre

At this branch office you can

  • Register for the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).
  • Renew expired OHIP cards.
  • File out-of-country health claims.
  • Renew expired Driver’s Licenses.
  • Apply for outdoor licences.
  • Drop off applications to the Landlord and Tenant Board of Ontario.
