Trades & Apprenticeships

Newcomers may want to pursue a career in a skilled trade such as carpentry or hairstyling. Some trades have apprenticeship opportunities that allow individuals to work in a skilled trade or occupation while they learn the trade from more experienced workers.

Some trades require workers to be certified. This involves writing a certification exam to ensure their skills meet Ontario standards.

Help with tuition costs and other financial assistance are often available in apprentice and training programs.

In Kingston, St. Lawrence College offers a variety of skilled trades and apprenticeship programs. Kingston also has a number of private career colleges that offer courses and training in different fields.
