Emergency Rooms & Urgent Care Centres

Kingston has two hospital emergency rooms that treat people with unexpected medical emergencies. Interpretive services are available upon request.

  • Kingston General Hospital operates an emergency department and trauma centre 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for serious medical emergencies. Kingston ambulances transport patients here.
  • Hotel Dieu Hospital operates an urgent care centre daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for less serious medical emergencies.

The city also has a number of walk-in and after-hours community clinics that provide care to people with minor medical conditions. Contact the clinics to find out their hours of operation.

Children requiring immediate medical attention can be seen at a walk-in Children's Outpatient Centre and Pediatric Urgent Care Service from Monday to Friday at Hotel Dieu Hospital. The outpatient centre is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and has a wheelchair-accessible entrance, washrooms and parking.

It is not necessary to make an appointment at an emergency department, walk-in clinic or urgent care centre. You must have an Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card or private health insurance to receive treatment.

You can also get advice and information about illnesses, injuries and other health conditions from Telehealth Ontario, a free government telephone health service that connects you with a registered nurse 24 hours a day.
