City Neighbourhoods

Kingston is organized into more than 40 neighbourhoods, each with its own name and identity (see For More Information links below). Some neighbourhoods are more densely populated than others and Kingston has extensive rural areas, but most neighbourhoods have residential homes, schools, and parks and green spaces. Many neighbourhoods in the central part of the city are characterized by older buildings, while outlying residential areas often have more modern-looking structures. Kingston's downtown also has many new apartment buildings that were built on or near the waterfront.

The services and amenities found in Kingston neighbourhoods vary widely. Some of the basic services found in Kingston include firehalls, libraries, hospitals, laundromats (public laundries), golf courses, public arenas and food stores. Municipal bus service is also available in most areas of the city. The price of housing and rental accommodation varies from one neighbourhood to another.
